6 Best Smart Televisions 2017 CLICK NOW .
We have had this TV for a couple of weeks. Since we don’t subscribe to cable, we mostly watch local news and occasionally local sport. We also have Amazon Prime and watch the odd free movie or rent one to watch on my computer monitor.
So when it came time to purchase a new TV we approached it the same way we approached buying a house. We made a list of the features we wanted (a SmartTV with Wifi, streaming channels, Amazon Prime, at least 50” and affordable at around the $500 mark). After looking at our options in terms of price and convenience, we decided that it made the most sense to purchase it through Amazon Prime.
After much research, we decided that the TCL TV’s offered the best value, met our budget requirements, and our decision to purchase the TV through Amazon enabled us to purchase the TV with interest free financing over 6 months.
Appearance.
The TV came in a large box with the stand hardware: remote, power cable and batteries plus simple instructions that were in separate bags. You do not get a HDMI or any other cables. The TV has a simple non-fussy design with approximately half inch bezel all around. The stand that comes with it is simple and screws on with two screws at each side. The stand footprint requires about 8.5 inches of depth to stand on which was perfect for the 11 inch thick mantle over our fireplace.
The old analog phono inputs are on the back and quite hard to reach once the TV is up on the mantle and they protrude straight out the back which would require more space between the wall and the TV if you use them. The power cable plugs into a recessed area low down on the left side and doesn’t interfere with the location of the tv. All the modern input and output sockets are behind the screen on the right side about 8 inches back.
Since we are just using an antenna we were initially a little apprehensive. Wondering how well that would work, or even if the TV had a tuner since everyone seems to use dish or cable these days. It has a tuner that works flawlessly. We managed to pick up almost 3 dozen channels many of them HD. A quick look online showed us a map of where the broadcast towers are and helped us aim our antenna for best reception.
The TV has a really nice clean picture and since it is an LED TV where a grid array of LED's light the screen uniformly rather than a couple of fluorescent lamps there is practically no limit to the viewing angle. The screen is not high gloss and prevents reflection and most glare from bright light sources. When turned on a non invasive 3” horizontal strip of illuminated plastic at the bottom shows you the TV is powered on. It flashes during startup and goes out when the screen is illuminated.

Image quality is excellent BUT on initial setup it is on a bright echo setting. Which is very high contrast and overly saturated. I guess it is a power saving mode (claimed 16 watts) but it is a bit stark and overwhelming and shows some dithering on smooth color transitions as though it is running at a lower bitrate with fewer colors. When turned to theater mode the quality of the picture is MUCH better with very smooth transitions on subtle colour gradients.
Sound
Sound is similar. Like most LCD style TV’s this one comes with tiny speakers. Again the default sound setting seems to be very flat. Probably to conserve energy. There are about four presets and again we went with theater which gives the broadest range and warm midtones without overdoing the bass. It doesn’t sound too bad and is not thin and reedy like the default setting.
Smart TV functionality.
We originally wanted WIFI because as Amazon Prime members we get a lot of free on demand media. This is similar to Netflix where you can watch a huge catalog of TV and movies for free, buy or rent them for a small fee. The same goes with music. This worked perfectly.
Mobile devices and streaming from those devices
There are apps for Android and iOS as well as Windows. I was able to control the TV from all our devices. In many ways it is more responsive, especially if you need to type in text. If you have media on your PC there are Apps for the TV that will let you stream from your phone, notebook, desktop computer etc.
Conclusion
For us, this TV proved to be a very good and affordable purchase. Especially when you factor in the 6 months interest fee financing Amazon offers prime members. We did sign up for a free month of Netflix too. The remote has a dedicated Netflix and Amazon streaming button. But we were not that impressed with Netflix when our Amazon Prime membership offered all the same features and more thanks to the addition of Amazon Prime music.
We really like this TV and highly recommend it.

Well, the TV is AT LEAST pretty good, and maybe very good. We like the picture very much. It takes a while to get the settings right to get the best picture out of it, but if you google words like "setting up your 4K tv," you can find some articles that will make this much easier. Allso, some folks ahve commented on the sound going up and down while you are watching program. We have seen this too. Its not that big of a deal. There is only a minor difference. Occasionally you will be watching something and the sound will get a little lower for a few seconds. We have it plugged into our stereo, and the sound is fantastic through there. Unlike many of the new 4K TVs, there are actually old-style RCA output plugs, so it makes it a snap to hook up to your stereo even if its an older model. You don't have to mess with bluetooth or anything, and even if you don't have a stereo near your TV, you can buy a cheap soundbar for about $50.
However, that's not why I am writing this review. It developed a problem two days after we bought it. We had the HDMI wire from the cable box plugged into the 4K HDMI socket (there are 5 HDMI inputs, but only ONE of them is actuially a 4K input. The others are all regular 1080p HDMI). When we were watching programs in the lower clarity range (the non-HDMI channels), after the TV has been on for an hour or so the picture would black out, and the screen would say "no signal." We would have to plug the lead into tone of the other HDMI inputs.

Bought a Vizio TV from Sam's Club, model E421VA, and have had many audio problems and loss of picture problems. For the fourth time the extended warranty company is sending a repair person to replace the same parts--motherboard and power supply. I was quick enough to catch the problem on video for proof of the problem.
No longer a fan of Vizio or Sam's Club equipment protection plan.
By the way, originally we purchased this TV for my mom who lives an hour away. She complained about the issues. She went through three cable boxes. We swapped our TV hers and the same problems continued at our home. It doesn't matter what channel or time of day.
Sam's Club needs to revisit their equipment protection policy. The TV should have been replaced after the second visit.

My Vizio TV color is messed up!
Are you sure it isn't due to bad lighting in the room or a bad movie disc?
The problem is universally bad, whether I watch on air TV or DVDs or streaming video.
If it was just the Vizio TV app or streaming media app, updating that app or reinstalling it could fix the image quality.
You'd think there's an app to fix that.
I'm assuming the HDMI cables are all okay.
I haven't changed them.
Vizio says you should use their certified HDMI cables for best picture quality.
I shouldn't have to change out the cables to get the image quality I had last week.
If you disconnected the cables to the set top box to play pictures or media on your TV and then didn't plug them back in all the way, you could get messed up video as a result.
I wonder if I need to change the settings to fix this.
Turn down the contrast so that the areas around dark areas on the image aren't surrounded by gray.
I haven't touched the contrast settings in ages. Could it be the brightness settings?
If everything is equally dark or dim, yes, you could fix this by turning up the brightness.
How would I do that?
Hit the menu button on the remote, go to the brightness option, then use the right arrow to increase brightness and left one to reduce it.
I could check other settings in that menu too, for things I could improve. I'm just afraid I'll mess it up.
If you messed up the display settings, you can go to help, menu, picture, reset picture mode, OK, exit.
At least that's easier than updating and rebooting.
If the TV updated its firmware, the image could be wonky until you power cycle the TV.
It has been turned off.
I mean hard power cycle, unplug, wait five minutes, plug back in.
Not everything is solved by rebooting.
You're right, and if the display board or inverter in the TV are malfunctioning, the only solution is getting the TV repaired.
Now I hope it is a setting problem.
Go to menu, TV settings, picture, and you'll see the picture settings. Set contrast to the default or neutral option, and you'll have the option to adjust the tint and color.
I've heard of people paying experts lots of money to adjust the color settings to get it perfect.
Just find your manual and adjust the color settings to what the manual says is best, and don't mess with the tint setting unless your ambient light sensor is malfunctioning.
If the ambient light setting was wrong, the brightness levels would be wrong.
At least that you could fix by making sure nothing blocks the sensor, so the colors are all dark because the DVD stack keeps the sensor in shadow.
It isn't universally dark but really messed up.
So start checking the wires on the back of the TV to make sure they are all tight and plugged in right. And if those are fine, try a different HDMI input, because if your gaming looks good but cable box isn't, you need to get that hardware fixed.
And if it all looks bad, have someone come fix the TV's hardware.

There are various ways to eliminate static electricity, but the most common way is to use a grounding wrist strap. Materials Needed:
To be best prepared to replace the Power Supply Unit (PSU) Board inside of your TV, you will need the following materials:
• A pair of latex gloves.
• Your ShopJimmy.com replacement Power Supply Unit (PSU) Board.
• A pair of needle-nose pliers.
• Both a flat-head and phillips screwdriver.
• And a cup to hold all screws, clips, and any other small items. So let's get to it shall we?
Instructions:
• Locate your TVs identification label and take note of the brand name model number, serial number and model code if present.
• Unscrew and remove the back cover.
• The Power Supply Unit (PSU) takes in and distributes power throughout the TV. This board is connected to the power cord, or the A/C Adapter.
• For this TV, the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is located at the left side of the chassis.
• Carefully unplug all wires by hand.
• Unlock the wire connectors by squeezing the tab or tabs and gently remove the wires. Be sure to keep a firm grip with both hands.
• Unscrew and remove your bad Power Supply Unit (PSU) Board from the chassis.
• The part number for this item can be found printed on a barcode label.
• Search your part number on to find a compatible replacement.
• Click on the search results to view important product specifications. Verify that your original board matches all requirements noted in the product description prior to purchase.
• Insert all screws to secure your ShopJimmy New Power Supply Unit (PSU) Board to the chassis.
• Reconnect all cables.
• Return the back cover to its original position and secure all screws.
• This ShopJimmy replacement Power Supply Unit (PSU) Board does not require any manual configurations in order to function. Simply plug in and power on and your TV will function as if new.

This video was made to help you repair your Vizio TV if can't get passed the Vizio logo. In order to repair this TV, the EEPROM memory has to be replaced.
My Vizio TV apps are gone! What can I do?
You could try resetting a Vizio widget by selecting the Via button on the remote. Just select the widget, push OK, pick system settings, OK, restore factory settings, hit OK again to reset that widget.
This isn't one particular app that isn't working, and no, I didn't delete one I'm looking for and exaggerating. They are all gone.
I've heard of maintenance to an app making one like Vudu disappear off the store until fixed. If there are problems with the Connected TV store, Widget Gallery or whatever else they call it, you probably won't see the apps.
Widget Gallery was replaced by Yahoo Connected TV store in 2012. And an internet search didn't say it was down.
So exit the Vizio widget apps, then go to set up and verify that the internet connection for the TV is working.
I know my internet connection works, because I already tried to look this up online.
It doesn't mean someone didn't put a wi-fi hot spot too close to the TV for it to make an internet connection or the wired cable for it to not interfere with the wireless gaming controls got disconnected.
I haven't done anything with the internet connection for the TV.
Then verify the network connection is properly set up, since someone changing the password for the local network but not in the TV settings could mess you up.
That would be annoying but solvable as long as someone else remembers the password.
If the TV can make a connection, then go back to the widget apps and see if you can bring up the application pallet.
I can't say what may have caused this in the first place.
If the TV firmware has changed, you may have to run through this process.
Or a reboot to try and fix it.
Unplug it, wait five minutes, plug it back in. And if it can't see the internet from the TV but can some other device in the house, do the same thing to your router.
I'm trying to think of what you haven't told me to power cycle. How do you do a firmware update?
If you don't have an internet connection via the TV, you can download the updates off the Vizio website, install on a flash drive and upload it to the TV via the USB port.
With that method, you have to be careful not to fat finger the model number of your TV to get the right update.
And don't forget to save the firmware update as an img file too or it won't go right.
I just don't want it to go wrong.
When the TV comes back on after you power cycle it, hit the info button on the remote to check the firmware version of the TV.
Now I'm glad it usually updates the firmware on its own.
If you check the website and there are no firmware versions listed for your TV model, there's nothing to update.
Which means that isn't the solution I need.
There's the possibility you need to restore the TV to factory defaults. If the unit was made after 2013, hit menu, system, OK, reset and admin, OK, reset TV to factory defaults and OK.
Then if I'm OK with that, say yes I'm sure.
It may ask for the parental code, too, and the default is four zeroes.
I'm guessing they assume if you're too young to find that online, it is a safe password.
you thought Smart TV was a waste of money, the ultracheap, competent Vizio E320i-A0 will try to prove you wrong.

I need to know how to fix a Vizio TV that says no signal.
Pay your cable or satellite bill.
It isn't because I didn't pay my cable bill.
I'm assuming it wasn't because you forgot to reconnect the cables after moving stuff around, so it says no signal because the HDMI port you told it to use as an input has nothing in it.
I can check that the HDMI cables are all connected.
Yes, and if one of the connectors is damaged or cables frayed, replace the cables. Oh, and make sure it is plugged all the way in.
I rarely ever unplug them.
You can also test if that's the problem by switching the HDMI input. If the problem shows up for the cable box but not on air TV, you know the problem is the connection to the cable box.
Or the cable box.
I can't know if that's the case, because there is no website for is my local phone and cable company dead.
I can still check the connections to the cable box.
Don't forget to scan for channels after you select a cable input.
That is such a common problem that they actually call for it in the user manual.
Sometimes you get a no signal error that isn't actually due to a connection. But you can reboot the TV to fix it.
I don't get how you reboot a TV aside from turn it off.
Unplug it from the wall, wait five minutes, plug it back in. That's a hard reboot, and if you think it is the cable box, power cycle that, too.
If anyone else tried that fix, I need to make sure the DVR and cable box have power, because the TV will say no signal if those are shut down.
There is also the possibility it says it has no signal because the power supply or main board have failed.
I can see where a lack of power to the TV would prevent it from getting a signal. Why would the main board failing cause this error?
The main board of the Vizio TV is usually what processes the audio visual inputs, so when it fails, the control board could say hey, there's no signal.
That's an expensive fix.
You can get this type of error if the HDMI ports are all broken, too.
If anyone ripped out cables hard enough to break them, I have a totally different problem.
I've heard of gaming consoles having loose HDMI ports, and you can still check the TV to see if they are snug and secure along with the cables.
Or I can wiggle the cable connectors to see if that clears the error, and if it does, have the ports fixed.
I've heard of the HDMI ports getting blown out when a power surge ran through the connectors to the ports to the TV.
If my HDMI ports blew up or burned out, the main board is likely damaged too.
At least running through all this means you won't feel like an idiot when the cable guy or TV repair guy reboots the hardware and charges you a fortune for it.
