New 2017 Fiesta steps upmarket with new crossover and Vignale models - we take a look around it and speak to the exterior designer
Ford has taken the wraps off one of this year’s biggest new cars – it’s an all-new, seventh generation Ford Fiesta, set to go on sale in 2017.
The Fiesta has been the best-selling new car in Britain seven years in a row, and even this year the ageing sixth generation model has surpassed the 100,000 registrations notch.
However, competition in the supermini market sector is hotting up. A new Volkswagen Polo is due next year, and brand new versions of the Nissan Micra and Citroen C3 are already on sale. As such, the new Fiesta is needed to continue the success story.
The new model is the most grown up version of Ford’s small hatchback yet, and the more premium outlook ought to be reflected in the price tag. Ford is set to ditch of some entry-level trim lines, and we expect the new Fiesta to start from around £14,000.
It’s a larger, roomier car with a more upmarket interior. This time round, Ford will expand its supermini’s horizons considerably with the launch of a compact crossover model called the Fiesta Active, as well as a luxurious Vignale model.
We've taken an early look at the new Fiesta in Germany. The first thing you’ll notice is the new design. According to George Saridakis, exterior design director at Ford of Europe, the car’s styling is “more evolution than revolution, with a more mature approach”.
Saridakis added: “It’s simpler and less fussy than the previous Fiesta, with a narrower daylight opening [windows] to make it look more elegant.”
It’s still instantly recognisable as a Fiesta, but the new car is 71mm longer and 12mm wider than its predecessor. Styling cues such as the swept-back headlights, simple bonnet and split wraparound tail-lamps at the rear help to accentuate the car’s extra width, but there’s a functional reason at the heart of the slight increase in size.
The previous Fiesta wasn’t the roomiest supermini on sale, but with a 4mm longer wheelbase – partly to house larger 18-inch wheels that are now available – Ford claims it has freed up an extra 16mm of knee room.
Space is helped by fitting slimmer front seats, and the new Fiesta is definitely more spacious in the rear than the old car, with competitive levels of head and legroom.
Ford hasn’t yet revealed how big the new Fiesta’s boot is, but Saridakis confirmed to Auto Express that it’s “within a few litres of the outgoing car”. That means we can expect a luggage capacity of around 290 litres, while access will be easier, thanks to a wider tailgate opening. The new Fiesta is also more spacious in the front, but here the space has come from redesigning the cabin layout.
The interior is the opposite of the exterior,” said Saridakis, adding that “It’s a revolution in design terms”. In place of the current vertical centre stack with its excess of buttons, the new Fiesta features a wider dash with more horizontal elements, and the infotainment system is all new. With all of the main functions apart from the climate controls operated through the touchscreen, there’s almost half the number of buttons on the centre console, which will make it much simpler to use.
Quality has definitely taken a leap upmarket, and the Fiesta has a more refined feel inside. But there will also be more customisation options available for the new car, with features such as the mirror caps and roof available in contrasting colours. Buyers will be able to specify different coloured trim inserts for the interior, too.
The Fiesta will be available in Style trim for fleet customers only, while private buyers get the choice of Zetec, ST-Line, Titanium, Vignale and Active guises available with various personalisation packs. There are three and five-door bodystyles as well, although the Active crossover only gets the latter option. The car also comes with what Saridakis calls a few different “faces”.
Lower-spec cars feature the basic front end, while ST-Line gets a much sportier look with a different mesh for the bespoke grille and a deeper front bumper that “draws its inspiration from the Focus RS hot hatch”.
ST-Line trim was only introduced earlier this year on the outgoing Fiesta, but it’s already been a sales success, so it’s no surprise that Ford has chosen to differentiate it further. Above th

My notes on the BRAVIA KDL-32W700C:
- Let's start with the basics - this is a great looking TV. It measures in at 32 inches, and the bezel is relatively small - just 0.4 inches or 1cm. The minimalistic stand is also a nice touch.
- The panel is 1080p, which is really all you need at this size, and it's high quality, producing sharp pictures, vivid colours and good contrast. It has 178 degree viewing angles, which most likely mean that it's an IPS.
- The sound is quite good - it's a step above most flat screens. The bass reflex speakers can apparently output 20 watts, which I find hard to believe, but they do get loud and the audio quality is surprisingly decent.
- In terms of inputs, you're getting component and composite inputs, if you still use those, an Ethernet input, and four HDMI ins - three on the back and one on the side for quick access.
- Now, let's talk about what you will notice when using this TV. First, say that you wanted to power it on and watch some free to air broadcasts. Well, this works just as you would expect it to. The only issue is that the TV does take a little while (around 15 or 20 seconds) after you switch it on before it will really do anything - so you can't change channels or launch an app for about half a minute. It's slightly annoying at first, but you get used to it.
- Another cool feature is the PVR - you simply plug a USB device into a port on the side of the TV, it'll then ask you whether you want to initialise the device, and once that's done you can simply press the Record button on the remote. Do note, however, that the device (flash / hard drive) you use must be more than 32GB in size.
- Now onto the Smart TV section. It's simple enough to use - press the Home button on your remote and you'll see this nicely designed interface centred around five tabs - Channel, Movies, Album, Music and Apps. These offer a choice of both locally stored and internet content. Navigate to the music tab, for example, and you can view music videos from VEVO or MP3 files stored on a connected flash drive.
- You can connect to the Internet via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
- I hear you asking, "But what about the apps?" Well, there's quite a few of them, to say the least. You've got your big names, like YouTube, Netflix, and, if you live in Australia, catch-up services like ABC iView. Then there's TED, Billabong, CNBC, the Huffington Post, CollegeHumour, I could go on and on.
- There's also a web browser (from which you can surf Google, etc), but the experience isn't the best. You can do a bit of casual browsing, but it's a simple fact that most websites aren't designed to be viewed from a distance.
- Now most apps, like YouTube, are thoughtfully designed and have good 10-foot user interfaces - they're easy enough to use while sitting a good distance away from the screen. That is, until you need to type some text. There's no keyboard on the bundled remote, so you're forced to navigate an on-screen layout using the D-pad - and it can get pretty painful.
- But on a more positive note, the TV has so many features and settings that it's easy to forget its minor issues. I'd recommend the BRAVIA KDL-32W700C, especially since it comes in at a price of under AUD$700.

China’s first driverless metro set to start from 2017
China is set to start their first driverless subway line in the capital city of Beijing from the end of 2017. The operation on the line will be fully automatic, including departures, door opening and closing as well as cleaning. How to Fix a Vizio TV that Turns Off By Itself
I need to know how to fix a Vizio TV that turns off by itself.
Make sure you didn't accidentally hit the power button trying to change the volume.
I couldn't make that mistake.
Make sure no one else has a remote and trying to turn it off when bored.
This isn't happening because of a remote control war.
It might be due to a fight over power.
I'll tell you now this isn't because someone is turning off the power strip the TV is plugged into in order to save electricity.
If you have a gaming console, DVR, cable box, Vizio TV and other stuff plugged into the power strip, it may not be able to handle the load. If the TV turns off when you turn something else on, that's a major sign of that problem.
And I thought the gaming console often shutting off when it was interfering with the surge protector in the power strip was bad.
You can get the same problem with the Vizio TV, and the solution is the same – plug it into the wall.
I can't plug everything into the wall, hence the power strip.
So try moving some things to other power outlets with extension cords in case you can lessen the demand on that particular power plug. After all, you don't want to trip a breaker.
I know demand isn't bad enough to trip breakers.
You could have a Vizio TV with an internal overload.
That would short the TV out.
Vizio TVs often have problems with overheating mechanisms, where it turns off when it thinks it is overheating, even when it isn't.
That requires someone else replacing the sensors, because I know it isn't due to overheating. Something else in that vicinity would give me red lights of death if that were true.
If you hear buzzing with periodic pops, and the TV turns off after the capacitor pops, that's why it turned off.
What other symptoms does that cause?
The screen may or may not get darker over time, but it will eventually fail to come on when the last capacitor blows.
If I wanted to open the back of the TV, I'd see that the capacitors were all big and puffy where they blew out.
You could have a TV turning off because of irregular power to the motherboard or the display board.
That will be expensive to replace.
Before you assume it is an expensive repair, do a hard reboot on the TV in case it is a software glitch.
How do you power cycle a TV?
Unplug it from the wall, wait five minutes, plug it back in.
Just like my gaming console, except minus the easy update option.
You can update the TV by going to system, system information, and you'll see the software version. If it doesn't match what the Visio website says is the latest and greatest, it should push to the TV.
You'd think it would have done that by now.
Then you can download the firmware off the Vizio website, copy to a USB stick and copy to the TV before power cycling to put it in place.

This of course is not my first HD TV. My first was a Toshiba DLP, and it was a lamp hog. Then a Toshiba 50 inch plasma, which failed in 3 years, then LG's first 1080p 60 inch plasma (Still working great), a Mitsubishi 73 inch DLP, (Still working great), and now, the ultimate plunge with this Sharp 80 inch TV.
My viewing area for this TV is 12 feet at its closest and 15 at the farthest, and I instantly thought when I turned this monster on, that I should have stayed with the 70 incher. Oh well, it is mine and I am happy with it.
For its size, this TV is well made and looks nice. Picture quality is excellent as close as 3 feet, and then as far back as you can go. I also purchased this TV from a major retailer in Texas because Amazon would not take 2 credit cards, and G. E. gave me more 36 months interest free credit at the Texas retailer than they did at Amazon on the store card, so Amazon lost the sale. I also looked for quite awhile at the, the Sharp 70 inch, and the Panasonic 65 inch VT30 Plasma, and I chose this TV for several reasons. Overall for size, quality, and looks, coupled with its truly great picture and excellent blacks. Remember, the better the blacks, the better the color, because black is the number one color in the color scheme.
I gave this TV 5 Stars because of its numerous features and control ability with its menus. The picture is also superb, but the Panasonic 65VT30 still has a little better picture quality SAVE AND EXCEPT LED LOOKS MORE NATURAL. I ADD THIS BECAUSE I STILL HAVE MY 60 INCH lg PLASMA IN MY BEDROOM, AND THE SHARP LED IS MUCH EASIER ON THE EYES THAN THE PLASMA AND NOT OVER CONTRASTED. LED is rapidly gaining on plasma though. Overall, I love this TV, and I will finally stop looking for awhile, because it is like being in a movie theater every time I turn it on. It also does not have the delay when turned on like the Mitsubishi DLP. The other good thing is when this TV is on all day, it is cool to the touch, where the Panasonic plasma is not.
Some settings from the calibration of my set, which I noticed was great out of the box, but it was somewhat to the red side on the tints. My calibration settings are as follows, and this was professionally done, and will help the rest of you get yours close. Mine now rocks!

My Vizio TV Turns On then Off!
My Vizio TV turns on then off!
Don’t push the power button like an elevator button, turning it off before it has a chance to come on.
This isn’t something as obvious as a remote control war.
I’m assuming you aren’t hearing weird static as the power supply flickers out.
I would probably hear a pop if it went out.
It may pop with a major failure or you get intermittent failures as capacitors and the power supply start to burn out.
Something like that requires parts getting replaced.
Most likely the power board if not the power board. I’m assuming it isn’t a more obvious hardware issue like a frayed cord.
A cord shorting would be a fire hazard.
Make sure your TV isn’t turning off as a power saving measure.
I don’t use that function.
The issue could be a software glitch with the TV’s last update.
My gaming console updates, but TVs don’t.
If the TV is an HD TV with an advanced controller, yes, it could have a software glitch from its last update.
I have no idea how to fix that.
Power cycle the TV just like the gaming console.
That means unplug it, wait a couple minutes, plug it back in and turn it on and hope it stays on.
You could also try turning it on using the button on the TV and seeing if it stays on. If it does, the problem is probably the remote control.
It is more likely the TV wouldn’t turn on because the remote control is dead than have it cycle on and off.
I can’t rule out that there is an unwanted signal from a stuck button or malfunctioning IR sensor.
So hide the remote and see if the TV stays on.
I’m also assuming the TV isn’t connected to a surge protector with a malfunctioning battery.
No, it isn’t, but if it was, I’d know to make sure the backup battery or surge protector was on and wasn’t shorted out.
With a Vizio TV, you still have to rule out it isn’t a hardware or software issue. Hit the menu button on the TV or the remote to see if the menu comes up.
What if it does?
Then you know the issue isn’t the display but the settings. A screen that alternates between satellite or cable and black is then an issue with the signal or power at the set top box.
I’d expect the cable box to flicker if that was the cause.
The TV could be flickering because the power cable is the issue. Unplug it and make sure you plug it in securely.
I haven’t unplugged it to power cycle it yet.
I can’t say this isn’t a glitch with the wall outlet.
If that was the case, the DVR and rest of the stuff plugged in the same outlet would be turning off and on.
Big screen TVs are power hogs, and it may be dimming and thus dying when you turn on other stuff because the wall outlet can’t provide enough juice for all the energy hungry devices.
This does become a great excuse to unplug the kids' gaming devices.

With the Concept Mercedes X Class Pickup Truck, Mercedes-Benz Vans gives a concrete outlook on its new pickup, the X-Class, in Stockholm. The first premium Mercedes pickup will combine the best of two worlds. This is demonstrated impressively by Mercedes-Benz with two Mercedes X Class Pickup Truck design variants of the concept car. The Concept X-CLASS powerful adventurer illustrates that the future Mercedes X Class Pickup Truck will possess all the strengths of a classic pickup – tough, functional, strong, and with off-road capability. The Concept Mercedes X Class Pickup Truck stylish explorer goes a step further and shows what will distinguish the pickup bearing the Mercedes star. The Mercedes X Class Pickup Truck will be a true Mercedes from the hallmark brand design and comfort to the driving dynamics and safety. Never failing to deliver, the iconic electronic duo were back home and clearly out to prove once more their place as Kings of Tomorrowland, and they’re weren’t taking any prisoners! With a set list that provided the famed Tomorrowland valley with many of the weekend’s biggest records, it was little wonder then that the 60,000 party animals were treated to a feast of musical madness. From megaton hits like ‘Mammoth’, ‘Melody, ‘Arcade’, as well as recent favorites such as ‘Stay A While’ and their Billboard #1 and Belgian Chart #1 hit ‘Higher Places’ featuring Ne-Yo. But perhaps the most notable moment during their 1hour show was when they initiated a global sit-down with their fan-favorite ‘Tremor’. Tuning in as part of the global Tomorrowland UNITE livestream fans from Japan, Mexico, Germany, Colombia and South Africa, joined in with the Belgian fans at Tomorrowland, to created sit-down the erupted with jaw-dropping force.
Fans present on the day and tuning in from a far were also treated to a reveal of Dimitri & Mike’s newest collaboration, ‘Hey Baby’, with undoubtedly one of the hottest producers right now, none other than Mad Decent head honcho Diplo. The pairing of this globetrotting trio has been highly anticipated by fans and didn’t fail to ignite a rambunctious response from the crowd.
With their 2015 Tomorrowland livestream continuing to be a hot favourite with fans from around the world, the official YouTube set presently has over 25 million views and counting, the brothers are proving to any naysayers that theirs is something which is still grabbing the attention of a legion of musical loving party animals the globe over.

Sony Bravia ZD9 flagship 2016 4K TV – unboxing & first look
Sony's new flagship ZD9 TV range has been revealed. Here we take a first look at the 65-inch model ahead of a full review.
The Sony ZD9 TV range features a 65in, a 75in and a mammoth 100in screen. In the UK, the 65in will cost £4000, the 75in is £7000, and the 100in will cost you an outrageous £60,000.
All TVs feature flat screens with subtle gold accents on the edges, and a grid-patterned back panel that hides all the connections and wires.
The ZD9 slots in right at the top of Sony’s Bravia range, and sports plenty of new technology to improve its picture performance when it comes to delivering Ultra HD 4K and HDR (high dynamic range) video.
