China is set to start their first driverless subway line in the capital city of Beijing from the end of 2017. The operation on the line will be fully automatic, including departures, door opening and closing as well as cleaning. Train will use only domestic technologies that they have been developing since 2010 and has mastered the core technologies.
According to Chinese officials the total length of fully automated subway lines in Beijing will reach 300 km by 2020. This move will help strengthen China’s presence in the global rail industry.
